FORGIVE ME FATHER
FOR I LIKE SIN
☼
Dawn. The beginning of the new day. Fingers of the sun touching and warming the frozen earth now that winter has taken a chilly grasp over the lands. Frost every morning until the rising sun melts it away. The winds swept across the grasslands and would certainly give any warm-blooded animal a chill down the spine.
As the sun reached for the temple of Erebos, the darkness faded and soon ran away. Cracks let the daylight into the darkest part of the temple. The Alpha’s den. A beast to be reckoned with slept within the abyss. A large frame rose and fell with the intake and exhale of a breath. It’s pitch black pelt allowing it to blend in with its surroundings. Soon the light would awaken the beast as it would stretch and stand upon its large paws. A lick of its maw would then make the jaws of the monster salivate and its silver swirling eyes open. Tenebris, alpha of the Erebos pack, soon made his way to the main den of the temple his pack lived within.
Light steps could be lightly heard as he made his solitary way down the long narrow corridor. His massive body swaying with his steps, head, and tail held high as he moved along. Tenebris looked to see if any other was awake and about, but nothing stirred as he went on his way. Now entering the main den he gave a small shake, removing the arctic shiver down his body. Silver eyes glaring out of the hefty doors that were closed and he would go through. The brute sauntered over to the door and shoved it open. Light flooded into the darkness of his temple as a gust of wind ruffled his long thick fur, snowflakes swirled about until they landed on the ground. Head and tail held high in his ranking.
Taking a deep breath of the brisk morning, Tenebris could see his breath as he strolled out into the snow and cold. Worry set in on his face and mind as the nightly patrol came with nothing of the one he missed the most. He sighed and closed his eyes for a mere moment before nodding to the wolves that passed him. Terebris couldn’t allow his pack to see him low and unstable. Couldn't be seen as weak. For his packs safety counted on his stern and heartless act to keep away from war with another pack. It had kept his pack from war for years now, he wouldn’t change himself for a moment. The alpha stepped carefully out into the new world of white and coldness. His thoughts were set on going for a walk, snow coming up to a bit over his massive paws. Here the brute could let his tail fall and his head swing to his swagger. Snowbirds were just beginning to awaken and sing their morning songs. Trees lay bare of leaves as they now rotted away under the newly fallen snow. Thrist hit the alpha male, so he knew where he was going.
On his way to the stream, a rabbit made the mistake of hopping onto the trail the pitch black beast was walking upon. Stopping dead in his tracks he waited for a split second before pouncing and landing squarely onto the body of the rabbit. Now Terebis had breakfast. Picking it up with his monstrous jaws, blood dripped from the body of the lifeless rabbit and onto the white snow. In a way, he thought it was pretty, the red against white. Finally, the alpha made it to the stream and sat down his meal only to lean over the edge of the bank for a drink. The water was almost frozen over, some places still moved to face for the water to freeze. Turning back to the rabbit he had caught moments before, the mighty maw began to tear and rip into the tender flesh of the belly. Warmness washed over his muzzle and soon he could feel the energy he needed rejuvenize his large frame. Soon his pack would participate in an annual hunt of winter. This would be when the pack hunted the largest elk or deer they could bring down. Filling Erebos’s stomachs for at least a little while.
After Terebis cleaned his maw in the water, the out of place wolf sat and enjoyed the beauty that surrounded him. Snowflakes fell all around him, even though this was his least favorite season, he had to admit there was a certain beauty that only this time of year could bring. Sighing, Terebris sat in silence.
